What we do
Supporting street children
Children live and work on the streets in every country in the world. The reasons that drive them there are many and complex but they often have very similar experiences, as they suffer appalling discrimination, violence, abuse and deprivation of their rights.
StreetInvest was founded in 2008 to improve these children's lives. We prioritise support for street-connected children for whom current provision is inaccessible, ineffective, inappropriate or simply unavailable. With over two decades of experience in the sector, we are thought leaders and experts in our field.
What makes us different?
We are unique in our focus on street work, an approach to working with street children that is based on building empowering relationships of trust between them and a trustworthy adult, as the first critical step towards knowing how best to support them.
These adults contribute to the child’s growth and development and reduce stigma and discrimination towards them within their communities. We call these adults street workers.
Street work is a rights based approach and recognises children as rights holders as defined in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Our Rights Based approach is Child Centred, which means it builds upon children’s unique and individual strengths and capabilities in order to help them find solutions in their lives.
